Hannaford Bros. Co. spokeswoman Caren Epstein said no formal talks have been held with Railex refrigerated transportation, but the Maine-based supermarket operator is constantly looking at ways to cut expenses. The company is taking its own steps to reduce fuel consumption, ordering lighter tractors and trailers that are more aerodynamic. It's even buying new tires intended to improve trucks' fuel efficiency.
